Changes in (on) the air

OK, I’ve decided to give this a whirl again. I stopped because – well, I have one of the shortest attention spans known to Man, and for me to stick with anything longer than a few days requires commitment. I think the only commitment I’ve ever honored is to the Army and my wife. So, a blog sort of didn’t make the cut.

What reallllly made me come back are a few changes in my life since the third week of October 2005.

First off, right after I posted my last entry, I was told one morning that a volunteer statement I filled out for drill sergeant duty back in 2001/2002 was being honored… in 2004. Unfortunately, it was going to be honored at a time when I was very satisfied, personally and professionally, where I was. I’m doing TV on a regular basis – traveling around the US shooting stories and airing them on the Army’s newscast.

Not to mention the fact that not two months ago, the same guy who told me I was heading off to drill sergeant duty (henceforth known as “on the trail”) also told me “dude, I’m not looking to move you ‘til ’07 on the near side…” I should know by now not to listen to that kind of dumb stuff, but it’s still what ya wanna hear, as opposed to reality. So all said and done, I’ll have been in this area for a total of 23 months when I PCS. Par for the course, unfortunately – I’ve been in the Army for almost 12 years. In that time, (not counting moves to basic training and 2 advanced trainings) I’ve made 7 permanent change of station moves. Youch. Doesn’t exactly scream stable, does it?

Anyway, so here we go. I’m no longer in search of more air time – I’m off to be the primary trainer of young Americans entering the Army in service to the nation (or themselves, whichever…) at the Home of the Infantry – Fort Benning, Georgia. I head off to the Advanced NCO Course in January, Drill Sergeant School in March, and report to Benning in July. Heeeeeerrreeeee weeeee gooooooo -------
